Red Dead Series

Posted on

The first game of the series Red Dead was released on the 4th of May in 2004: the Red Dead Revolver. Three major entries followed on the time line by the year 2018 as well as numerous DLC’s.  All of the content focuses on the old American period beginning from 1880 onwards so it’s basically Yeehawww all the way.

Red Dead Series

In the first game, Red Harlow plays the protagonist with a mission focusing on exposing the cause of his parents’ deaths… so the bounty hunter is all about revenge. The second edition is a bit more complex. Named as the Red Dead Redemption (RDR), this gameplay focuses on a societal outlaw, John Marston. While the authorities hold his family as captives he is forced to abide by them and track down his three previous gang members. Not only will the players experience the rough cowboy life of Western America but they can also taste a bit of horror in the extended version of RDR, titled as the Undead Nightmare –Marston versus the contagious zombie plague. Goosebumps and dilated pupils all the way. RDR2 released in 2018 as a prequel to RDR revolves around a gang member belonging to the Van der Linde. Marston and Dutch Van der Linde also form a part of the plot.

Each game shares the honor system; the player is entitled to bear the consequences of his deeds and his decisions along the storyline affect his reputation in the game world. The protagonist is also always a runaway gunslinger with bounty hunting skills and similar features. RDR2 allows the users to adapt a first-person stance too, giving it an edge over the third-person perspective common to the remaining elements of the series. The Dead Eye mechanism is also more refined in the redemption titles as compared to Red Dead Revolver. Access to open-world is not available for the first entry but the following games allowed exploration and access to the free world.

The game reminds you of the movie Once Upon a Time in the Westespecially due to similar setting. The zombies are nothing comparable to World War Z though and neither are any of the players as attractive as the main lead.

Red Dead Series

Arthur Morgan was the most appreciated character majorly due to his emotional complexes and his devotion to the gang since childhood. And the part where Morgan elaborates his concrete morals to the opponent gang members by saying, “We’re bad men, but we ain”t them,” truly reflects his original personality.
